What must I do to be saved?
Last week when Mark gave us children’s responses to this question, did you chuckle?….oh kids, they sort of get the message. What must we do to be saved? ” It is by faith we are saved, there is nothing we can do to be right with God. A message so simple, yet apparently not so easy for us to fully take on board.
Do you have those moments when you think maybe there is more to be done, or maybe more you shouldn’t be doing. Do you think maybe there could be something that could make you more right with God? Like the children, we seem to still don’t quite get it.
While we were, and still are sinners, God exchanged our sin for Christ’s righteousness. A gift from Him, God’s own doing. He treats us as if we are living a righteous life because of Christ’s righteousness. How incredible is His grace towards us! We now stand in a place of undeserved Privilege (Romans 5:2); we have peace with God (Romans 5:1).
For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God (Romans 5:10-11)
Through Christ’s life, we are friends with the Creator of the universe. So as we journey through life, sometimes hurt by those around us, self-doubting, struggling with sickness or in a place of grief, we can be confident that even in these times, because of how God views us, we have assurance that His Spirit will be working in us.
We are so undeserving and yet so desired.
